This recipe will guide you through making your own homemade burger buns, ensuring they are light, airy, and deliciously satisfying.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 egg (for egg wash)
Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a dough begins to form.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1-2 hours.
Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 8 equal portions and shape each into a ball.
Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a towel, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Beat the additional egg and brush it over the tops of the buns. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
