Grilled sausages are a classic comfort food that offers savory flavors and satisfying textures, especially when paired with sweet mashed potatoes. This easy dinner recipe is perfect for outdoor cooking during the warmer months, making it a family-friendly meal that everyone will enjoy.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 large sausages (choose your favorite type, such as bratwurst, Italian, or even spicy chorizo for an extra kick)
1 tablespoon olive oil (extra virgin for enhanced flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste (freshly ground is recommended for a better flavor)
Your choice of herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme, or oregano) for seasoning
2 large sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds, preferably organic for better flavor)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter (use high-quality butter for the best richness)
1/4 cup milk (or heavy cream for a richer flavor)
2 cloves garlic, minced (or more if you love garlic)
Salt and pepper to taste (remember to season well to enhance the sweetness of the potatoes)
Fresh herbs for garnish (e.g., parsley or chives, finely chopped)
Instructions
Start by preparing the sweet potatoes. Peel and chop them into evenly sized chunks, about 1 to 2 inches.
Place the sweet potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
Add the butter, minced garlic, and milk to the drained sweet potatoes. Mash everything together until smooth and creamy. Adjust the consistency with more milk if desired, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
While the sweet potatoes are cooking, preheat your grill to medium heat (about 400°F).
Drizzle the sausages with olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and your choice of herbs.
Place the sausages on the grill and cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
Once the sausages are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
Serve the sausages alongside the sweet mashed potatoes, garnishing the mash with additional herbs for a fresh touch.
