This easy recipe combines tender meat with a savory barbecue sauce, creating a dish that's not only tasty but also perfect for family dinners and summer barbecues.
Ingredients
Scale:
8 chicken drumsticks, preferably free-range for better flavor
1 tablespoon olive oil, extra virgin for superior taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder, use fresh garlic for a more robust flavor if desired
1 teaspoon onion powder, or finely chopped fresh onion
1 teaspoon smoked paprika, which adds a nice depth
1 teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
½ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground for optimal flavor
1 cup savory barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
2 tablespoons honey (optional for sweetness)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the spices are fully incorporated into the oil, creating a flavorful paste.
Add the chicken drumsticks to the bowl with the seasoning mix. Use your hands to coat each drumstick evenly.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the seasoned drumsticks on the rack.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. The drumsticks should be golden brown and cooked through.
While the chicken is baking, mix the barbecue sauce with honey and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl.
After 25 minutes, brush the sauce generously over each drumstick.
Return the drumsticks to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and caramelized.
Let the drumsticks rest for a few minutes before serving.
